The Sonel PVM-1530 is a multifunction photovoltaic meter designed for comprehensive commissioning and O&M testing of 1500V PV installations. It covers the full scope of IEC 62446-1 Category 1 measurements — Voc, Isc, insulation resistance, continuity — alongside Category 2 IV and PV curve tracing with automatic STC correction per IEC 60891. The instrument handles bifacial and high-efficiency module strings, making it relevant for modern TOPCon, HJT, and bifacial arrays alongside conventional PERC installations.
STC conversion is performed automatically in conjunction with the Sonel IRM-1 environmental sensor, which measures solar irradiance and module and ambient temperature. The reSYNC function handles a common field problem cleanly: if the PVM-1530 moves out of range of the IRM-1 during testing, the IRM-1 logs environmental data independently in its own memory and synchronises automatically when the connection is restored — ensuring no measurement is left without environmental context even across large arrays.
The instrument features a large colour touchscreen with strong backlight for visibility in full sunlight, a rugged sealed housing, and built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for data transfer. Measurement data exports to standard formats via Sonel Reader software. Optional Sonel Reports Plus generates formal IEC 62446-1 commissioning documentation. The LoRa-equipped radio interface option extends IRM-1 range significantly beyond Bluetooth, making the system practical across large utility-scale string layouts.
Key Capabilities
IV & PV Curve Tracing
Measures full I-U and P-U characteristics per IEC 62446-1 Category 2 and IEC 61829. Results automatically converted to STC via IRM-1 irradiance and temperature data per IEC 60891. Supports bifacial and high-efficiency module strings.
Insulation Resistance
Riso measurement at 250, 500, 1000, and 1500V DC for PV circuits. Simultaneous measurement of RISO+ and RISO− provides positive and negative pole insulation in a single test. AC circuit Riso available at 250, 500, 1000V DC test voltage.
Bypass & Blocking Diode Test
Tests bypass diodes with automatic polarity detection — identifies failed or short-circuit bypass diodes that remove sub-string voltage without activating correctly. Tests blocking diodes at 1000 and 1500V DC, relevant for multi-string combiner configurations.
Continuity & Earthing
Resistance of protective conductors and equipotential bonding with ±200 mA test current. Covers IEC 62446-1 earthing continuity requirements for IEC-compliant commissioning documentation.
reSYNC & Cloud Platform
The reSYNC function automatically supplements measurement records with IRM-1 environmental data after connection is restored — no data gaps from range issues. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and optional LoRa radio support. Integrates with Sonel MeasureEffect cloud platform.
AUTO Mode & Structured Memory
AUTO mode runs the full IEC 62446-1 measurement sequence from a single START press — Voc, Isc, Riso, continuity — reducing operator steps during commissioning sweeps. Large structured memory with predefined installation hierarchy maps measurements directly to circuit identifiers for report generation.
