A wireless irradiance and temperature sensor that pairs with the E-1500 and E-1000 IV curve tracers. Connects to a calibrated reference cell to measure plane-of-array irradiance and module temperature, transmitting those values wirelessly to the tracer at up to 2 km range — enabling automatic STC correction per IEC 60891 without repositioning equipment as you move through a large array.

Overview
The Entec Solar E-Sens is the environmental sensor module that completes the E-1500 IV curve measurement system. Where the E-1500 handles the electrical measurement of modules and strings, the E-Sens is responsible for capturing the conditions under which those measurements are taken — specifically, plane-of-array irradiance and module temperature — and delivering those values wirelessly to the tracer in real time.
In the field, the E-Sens connects to a calibrated reference cell (purchased separately) and is placed at the test location. The E-1500 then uses the irradiance and temperature values it receives from the E-Sens to automatically apply STC correction per IEC 60891, producing corrected Voc, Isc, Vmp, Imp, and Pmax values directly from the measurement.
The standout specification is the 2 km wireless communication range. On a large ground-mount or utility-scale array, a technician testing combiner rows can walk the entire length of a string row without needing to reposition the reference cell or sensor. The E-Sens stays fixed at one location and continues transmitting irradiance and temperature data to the E-1500 across the full measurement campaign. This is the primary operational advantage over wired sensor approaches or short-range wireless alternatives.
The E-Sens also supports up to three Pt1000 temperature sensors for measuring module back-surface temperature at multiple points — useful for confirming thermal uniformity or capturing temperature gradients across strings. An onboard display shows current irradiance and temperature readings directly on the device.
Note on the reference cell: The E-Sens itself is the wireless transmitter and readout unit. A separate calibrated reference cell — available from Entec Solar — is required to perform irradiance measurement. The reference cell connects to the E-Sens physically and provides the Isc signal from which irradiance is derived. When specifying the E-Sens, confirm whether a calibrated reference cell is included or needs to be ordered separately.
Key Capabilities
2 km Wireless Range
The longest wireless range of any IV curve tracer sensor in its class. Place the E-Sens and reference cell at one location and complete an entire large-array measurement campaign without needing to reposition. Eliminates sensor-chasing on multi-combiner or utility-scale sites.
Automatic IEC 60891 STC Correction
Irradiance and temperature data from the E-Sens feeds directly into the E-1500's STC correction algorithm. Every IV curve measurement is automatically translated to standard test conditions — no post-processing required in the field and no manual entry of environmental conditions.
Up to 3 Pt1000 Inputs
Accepts up to three external Pt1000 temperature probes, allowing simultaneous back-surface temperature measurement at multiple points on or across modules. Useful for identifying thermal outliers, confirming temperature uniformity assumptions, or capturing temperature gradients across a string.
Onboard Display
A small integrated screen shows current irradiance (W/m²) and temperature (°C) readings directly on the E-Sens device. Allows the operator placing the sensor to confirm readings are live and within expected range before beginning measurement, without needing to check the E-1500 unit.
Calibrated Reference Cell Interface
Connects directly to Entec Solar's calibrated reference cells — Class A per IEC 61724-1, with calibration uncertainty of 1.2%. The reference cell's Isc signal is the basis for irradiance derivation, giving measurement traceability aligned to IEC 60904-3 (AM1.5 spectrum) and IEC 60904-10 linearity requirements.
System Integration
The E-Sens is purpose-designed for the E-1500 and E-1000 system — not a standalone instrument. Pairing is handled automatically when both devices are powered. Environmental data is logged alongside every IV curve measurement in the E-1500's CSV output, ensuring each curve record includes the irradiance and temperature at time of measurement.
Compatible Instrument
The E-Sens is an accessory for the Entec Solar E-1500 and E-1000 IV curve tracers. It is not a standalone instrument and requires one of those tracers to log and process measurement data. See the E-1500 product page for full IV curve tracer specifications. The E-Sens is typically included with the E-1500 system — confirm bundle contents when ordering.
